WALT read a poem and analyse the language features of a poem.
Your smile ignites my heart like the candles on a cake.
Casting light on so many hopes and wishes.
Like the paper around your presents, I’ll wrap you in my arms.
Offering my gift of love that’s all yours.
You lift my spirits like a balloon, and I am guided by the winds of your love.
There’s no needle sharp enough to deflate this feeling.
On your birthday, know that you mean the world to me.
And if I may make your wish for you,
May happiness always find us
Let a smile never leave your lips
And may our love always keep us together.

3. Evaluate (which means reflect and give your opinion) the author’s purpose for writing this poem - in your answers include the words: inform, entertain, persuade.
- By analysing the poem I have read this week I think the author wrote this poem
because the author was trying to write a poem about what kind of people your family is about and what they wish for on your birthday.
- The author was informing the audience about... what kind of birthday you should have even if your family had made it.
- The author was entertaining the audience by... (emotions/language features) talking about what kind of family and love they have between them and their family.
- The author is trying to persuade the audience to think/believe/reflect...
because she wanted the audience to think that her poem was interesting and to reflect on the poem so they could comment on the poem wit good advice and good support.
